Artist Bio: "No two words can describe this Hip-Hop/R&B artist no better than "hard working" as he makes his way to the top. Struggling for some kind of publicity, his will to be heard is just the beginning of his story. Born in Chicago & raised on the south suburbs, its been 9 long years since he started on his path for respect, but it seems like it just haven't came yet. Ramaj Eroc aka Mr. Ignorant Lyrical says 2012 "is my year". If that's true, he has the ability to shut the critics up." - Ramaj's Official Website

Espi Music: Really cool to sit down with you man, to start things off you mind telling the readers of Espi Music a little bit about yourself? PropaneLV: I am currently a white rapper from Portland, Oregon. My real name is Dustin Ponzoha but my mother calls me Dusty bust. Espi Music: Haha "Dusty Bust" I guess that why that contact pulls up on the chicks phone in the "Weeknd Romance" vid. How is the college life and girls treating you? PropaneLV: I've never really been able to sit still for more than 10 minutes at a time that being said College girls with the ability to cook have always been kind to me. Espi Music: I gotta say I agree with that bro, I myself have 2 or 3 houses I frequent for food. So how long have you been rapping / creating music for? PropaneLV: Long enough to have my girl leave me for someone with a real job, My father to disown me and my sexuality to be in question on more than one occasion. Espi Music: Probably one of the best answers I have ever received on a question like that bro, good shit. Who have / do you take inspiration from musically? PropaneLV: Credence Clearwater Revival, Journey, and the majority of attractive light skinned women. Espi Music: Nice. So what was the experience of filming "Weeknd Romance" the music video like? PropaneLV: I hadn't spent much time in front of a camera at that point. I was pretty nervous. Plus I had to look cool in front of the half naked chick walking around the entire time. I drank cheap champagne to calm my nerves and was damn near drunk by the end of the shoot. Great all around experience though, can't wait to do it again. Espi Music: Hows it goin Hustleburry, you mind givin the readers of Espi Music a little run down about your self? HUSTLEBURRY FIN: I know everyone everywhere says this but, I'm different. I've been a weirdo all my life and I think that's what attracts people to me. Most of the time I don't know WTF came out of my mouth when I say things because I don't think before I speak but that hasn't been a setback what so ever. I love music, not rap but all forms of music from dubstep, to country even (I used to hate country so much I would yell at whoever played it. Then one day driving at My Fit Foods, where I work, I was tired of the radio so I decided to listen to one song. I kept listening and I realized, no matter what art form you use to express yourself, if you are good and truthful in it, it is beautiful. Anyways besides that homo side-note, I love making my music. I work the best by myself but I love working with friends and having fun with it. Also I'm always a student, my minds always open, taking in any information I can from anyone who is knowledgeable in areas i am not. I love sports I'm on a soccer team, a flag football team, and I skateboard with my bummy buddies that are super bad ass. Anyways I hate talking about myself like this so I'm gonna throw out some holler hollers. Dylan Smith (been there since dinosaurs) Amber Wenski (most supportive girl ever) JR Teemah (has my back through thick and thin) Brice Showenstien (even more underground in rap than me look for B Da Wunda in Full Off The Appetizers) Ryan Holloway (best skater ever to live and my photographer in the pics you've seen) Jarred Gethers (cant forget chaboi) Nic da Sic (became addicted to recording at your house) Kyle Peters (I love you and will always miss you, I know you're spirits floatin with me) Mason Spellings (let me stay at his place in S.A. and helped make my crispy voice crispier) and of course Justin Espinosa for this right here, helping my name spread out more, it needs it. Espi Music: That's gnarley you have had so much support in so many different places man, I guess we all know where your inspiration to keep going comes from. Where did the name "Hustleburry Fin" Derive from bro? HUSTLEBURRY FIN: Actually its not that cool of a story. I was 17 and I was upstairs at my friends, frequently visited, party, get too throwed, palace called "7607" (brilliantly named b/c of its address) where at any given night you could find 15 or more people doing 5 or more drugs. We were just smoking in the bedroom and I was free-styling, as always, and I guess I said "Hustleburry has leached on to it." We created other names too, like Tommy Gun Sawyer (derived from Tom Sawyer) and Pe$o$ Bill$ (obviously from Pecos Bill). Just stupid folklore storybook rap names, but after all was said and done I couldn't get away from it. So here i am HUSTLEBURRY FIN. Espi Music: I guess you have already given us an idea of how you got started but you mind giving Espi Music a run down on how exactly you got into the rap game from the beginning? HUSTLEBURRY FIN: I have loved rap ever since I can remember. My dads girlfriend snuck me Missy Eliot, and Busta Rhymes C.D.s when I was only 9 or 10 and I couldn't get enough. One of my favorite rappers is MA$E (not new preacher "Welcome Back" MA$E, but old Bad Boys "I'ma Die High" MA$E. I mean listen to the old shit he's such a genius. Anyways I memorized songs and I would recited them when I was only a baby hustleburry. That's all I did until the first day of 6th grade. Dylan Smith was in most of my classes and we enjoyed being "class assholes" together so we decided to hang out after school. On the long walk to my moms house we discussed our favorite rap songs and somewhere along the way decided we could rhyme words too, how hard is that? I think the first freestyles were something like "Sittin on my ass, smoking on some grass, out of my glass, we will never pass." Horrible but we loved it, we did it every day, and we got better. My dad bought me a karaoke machine I had been begging him for for Christmas, now we had recording abilities. We did skits, and raps about people from school (we thought we were hilarious). High school came along with a whole new group of friends.(IF YOU'RE STILL READING BARE WITH ME... ha) Kyle Peters (RIP) took me to my first HS party when I was a freshman. It was fucking awesome I was super baby compared to everyone there, and I was super fucked up. I went out back and saw a group of older black kids, and stereotypically asked them if they free styled. They did. I beatboxed for them for a while then they returned the favor and they were astounded! Party after party I would be the center of the freestyle circles. By my senior year upon arrival at a house party I was expected to freestyle, even if I wasn't in the mood. Musical genius Sean Trenholm(who I forgot to mention in my holler hollers) called me over to his house one day and said he had a beat for me. I free styled over it i was super proud, you can still check it out at myspace.com/hustleburry lol. One glorious day after getting shitty downtown, Ryan Shout (ma cracka) told me we could go over to Nic da Sic's place and record and addicted. I went out and bout my own equipment, built a studio with Dylan in his roomy's closet and history began. The public needed to hear these freestyles and songs that were produced in this studio, especially the ones with the OHC (Orange Hat Crew) and they soon would. I how ever wanted to do my own thing, by myself and it was too far of a drive to Cedar Park every day. Amber got her brand new mac book and it was over from then on. I started with "WTF Metronome" and didn't even release it on Facebook. Then my first written track "Fresh Out the Shower" was created. Amber sent it to a slew of homies and that's how Justin (Espi Music) first heard of Hustleburry. THE HISTORY AFTER THAT IS PAINTED IN THE SONGS! Espi Music: Awesome recap bro, above you mentioned the OHC (Orange Hat Crew), and after chilling with you for a little bit, Espi Music has become aware of a little something you like to refer to as "Sing Song Flow". Can you give the readers a run down of what the Orange Hat Crew, as well as "Sing Song Flow" Refer to? HUSTLEBURRY FIN: I love me some sing song flow, as well as some Orange Hat Crew. Let me start out by giving you the origin of the OHC. I was 18 and I had just graduated, I had received an academy gift card. I purchased about $95 of bullshit and had 5 dollars left over. I wandered around looking for 5 more dollars of worthless shit but never found that. Instead shined a lonely orange hat staring at me from a good distance away. It pulled me in like scorpion and thank god, the price tag read $4.99. I couldn't take it off my head for a little over a year until tragedy struck. I left it over at Sycamore Springs (another vomit palace of us low lives) where Brice Showenstien lived right before he went off to Germany. I was too late Brice boarded the flight wearing the hat then spent a year with it himself. When he returned the hat was very tattered and dirt soaked, perfect condition for Dylan Smith to wear. and that he did. until the first time we all 3 (great buds) came together in the studio Dylan and I had built. That is when we nailed it to the wall and that is where it will stay till the end of time (until he moves). You can find various picures of each of us wearing that 5 dollar hat. Sing song flow was created that vary night in the studio. We had already made about 6 freestyles and we were hammered and blasted as a human can be... for some reason I kept slurfully saying "I anna sin song flo, cmo guys les do sin sonnn flow" so we did, I went first on that track and its basically freestyle singing mixed in with regular flows. Very fun shit, those freestyles will come out someday BTW. Espi Music: No lie bro, hearing about the OHC reminds me of my old HS days and how me and my own personal crew came to be, good shit. Back to you though Hustle, how have you evolved as an artist sense the release of your first track "Fresh Out the Shower"? HUSTLEBURRY FIN: I was listening to "Fresh Out the Shower" today and Ii fucking love it. I know my songs have gotten a little more lyrical, and it is much easier for me to make a song with a point behind it now but I just think each one of my songs are so different that I cant, myself, put them into a progression time line. You know what? I take that back, there really is something to be said about 3 of my more serious songs, and how I "progressed" with them. 1. Lateness - the first one with more of a hard hitting serious theme where I explain why the game needs me, and how lame others are. 2. Do It For Me- Where I explain, I have to do it for myself because trying to help so many people just doesn't work out for me, so have my back but don't ride my coat tails. 3. 2 Cents - Dylan actually was telling me about how he showed a group of people my song "Super Infected" and they just were talking over it and blindly saying it was lame. He snapped at them and called them idiots for not actually listening and started it over. They loved it and played it over a few times. He called me and said "You gotta make a song about how these fucking sheeple don't actually listen and then have the audacity to try to tell you how to make your music" I agreed and put a lot of feelings into this song sprinkling it with cleverness and rhyme schemes I had never used or heard before. "Progression" as I see it in me. Click "Read More" To catch the rest of Hustleburry's interview as well as check out / download some of his latest tracks! After the disbanding of alt.folk band Hark! The Redcoats in 2006, Redcoats co-founder Taylor James organized The Hooch with one of his hometown bandmates in 2009. Now based in San Antonio, the band has played numerous Texas shows and have self-produced their highly anticipated debut album "The Whiskey Policy". James boldy claims the band is actively creating their own genre called "rock and tumble". Austin Music Entertainment announced The Hooch's CD release as of January 21st 2011. Espi Music had the privledge of sitting down with The Hooch and getting to know the band a bit better, Check out the interview below! Members: Taylor James - Vocals, Guitar, Keys. Joseph Dupuis - Bass, Harmonica. Mitch Stuart - Lead Guitar. Cody O'dell - Percussion, Vocals. --Espi Music: So tell the Espi Music readers a little bit about your band.
THE HOOCH: The Hooch is a 4 member band that prides itself on the invention of a new genre called "rock and tumble." The Hooch is here to bring Texas' best rock music to the ears of the young and old. As Indigo Children, we believe that we are sent as messengers to usher in a new age of music and thought that is foreseen in the coming years after 2012. Basically, The Hooch will be melting faces until the end of the earth. --Espi Music: Your bands name is pretty unique. How did the name "The Hooch" and the band Come to be? THE HOOCH: The name "The Hooch" was chosen before the band itself actually formed. Frontman, Taylor James, started with just a band name and an idea: to form a rock group that would re-define the genre as the music was played. The Hooch includes so many different types of genres in their music that the band had to coin their own term, "rock and tumble." All members of the band seem to have joined the band due to random chance, but The Hooch believes they were all brought together for a purpose. --Espi Music: How has the band grown since the start and beginning of The Hooch? THE HOOCH: In the beginning, The Hooch was merely a cover band with only a few original songs in their rotation. They performed regular weekend cover shows for almost 6 months before The Hooch decided that they would make the transition into a completely original Texas rock band. Even though there was money to be made in a cover band, The Hooch voted unanimously on changing its course and paved the way for a successful music career. Since then, The Hooch has buckled down on song writing and now performs their original repertoire of songs for crowds all over Texas. Cody O'Dell: "The Hooch is constantly improving on song writing, stage performance, and public relations due to the fact that each member is extremely dedicated." --Espi Music: How did the release of your first album turn out (awesome album art by the way)? THE HOOCH: The Hooch worked very hard in 2010 to prepare for its debut album, "The Whiskey Policy." Austin Music Entertainment announced The Hooch's CD release as of January 21, 20011. Working with producers like Kelly Stuart (AMD/Grammys) and Kelly Donnelly (Eric Johnson, Studio Plush) gave us the confidence to commit to our very first album(even though it was all recorded in only 8 hours!). Everyone at Yellow Dog Studios in Austin made us feel right at home during the recording. The Hooch hosted 2 album release shows(Austin & San Antonio) in early 2011. Both shows were a success! "The Whiskey Policy" was sold out for both performances! Now, anyone can get The Hooch's new CD online. Taylor James: "We feel like the success of our freshman album is due to the raw talent of the band as a whole. But as we improve together, our music and style has changed, and we all agree that it is for the better. That is why the album currently in progress seems like it will be so good because every new song is always our best song." -ESPI MUSIC X DJ NYCE INTERVIEW- Espi Music: So Dj Nyce Tell us about yourself. DJ NYCE: I have been a very highly professional disc jockey, who has been involved in the music industry for over 10 yrs now. Espi Music: How did you get into Dj'ing? DJ NYCE: I got into DJing at the age of 13 years when I was at a block party in Brooklyn, NY. I remember the dj had control of the whole block and everyone would be singing along and dancing to whatever he played. Can't really remember the DJ. but I knew from that point I wanted to be that guy who had that much control at a party. Espi Music: How does living in New York compare to living in Austin Texas, both personally and professionally? DJ NYCE: Well New York is more of a fast pace lifestyle and the promotion and music and art market is very competitive and everyone is hungry to get to the top of where there trying to get at. To me Austin is more of a laid back environment but when people want to get where they want to get to they really know how to show . In my eyes I stay on that going a fast pace all the time . It's like Jay-Z said "If you can make it New York, your can make it any where" But to be honest I like Austin, Texas a lot but I never forget where I come from and where my roots came from thats why am always on a "New York State Of Mind". Espi Music: What DJ'ing equiptment do you currently own? DJ NYCE: I currently am using a set of Technics 1200 and a Pioneer 800 mixer, and using the Serato program. Espi Music: What is your favorite kind of music to mix? DJ NYCE: I really don't have a favorite kinda music I love to mix, I am an open formate DJ. which means I like to play any type of music from house to hip-hop to 80's to rock and mash them up all together. If I had to pick I am more of a hip hop head. Click "READ MORE" To catch the rest of this interview and listen to a set produce by DJ NYCE! |
